Collaborations


The Institute has consciously evolved a multi sector approach to networking and has developed collaborations and linkages with the following organizations:

A) International Collaborations and Linkages

  1. The Institute has a collaboration with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Cologne, Germany since 2006 under which a student - teacher exchange program between the two Universities has been initiated. Joint field work on various current issues are conducted for students from both Universities. The MoU also supports internships in Geoinformatics and Environment Science.
  2. The Institute has signed an MoU with the Maastricht University, Netherlands for its teaching and internship program in Geoinformatics.
  3. The Institute has a Cooperation Agreement with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Germany for the program ‘Education for Sustainable Development’.
  4. The Institute had a collaboration with UNESCO, Paris for starting the Diploma in Environment Education for school teachers in 1998. UNESCO, Paris acted an initial funder for the project and the BVIEER was the initiator and implementer.
  5. The Institute had an agreement with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, New York, USA, in the 1997 for the project ‘A conservation awareness and action program for an ecologically fragile region using traditional values’.
  6. The Institute had a collaboration with UNESCO, Bangkok for adapting a CD-Rom on ‘Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable future’ in June 2003. This contract was award to BVIEER based on its expertise in designing and implementing environment education projects.

B) National Collaborations

The Institute has a large number of collaborations and linkages with various organizations for its research programs. Some of the organizations include:

  • World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-I)
  • Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON)
  • Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS)
  • Wildlife Trust of India, New Delhi
  • MYVETS, Maharashtra

Besides this the Institute also has links to smaller NGO’s working in the states of Maharashra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The BVIEER has been appointed as the Resource Agency for Maharashtra for the National Green Corps program of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India since 2002 till date. This program reaches out to 8850 schools across the state of Maharashtra.

The BVIEER is also the Regional Resource Agency for the states of Maharashtra and Goa for the ‘DNA Club Program’ of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India since September 2007 till date.
