MSc (Geoinformatics)


Geoinformatics is the synergy of multiple disciplines, namely GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry, GPS, Information Technology and geodesty. It is fundamental to all the disciplines which use data identified by their locations. Master of Science in Geoinformatics deals with spatial and non-spatial data, their methods of acquisition, management, analysis, display and dissemination. Application of geomatics are mainly oriented to real world management problems pertaining to natural and man-made environments. Geoinformatics is an increasingly pervasive information processing system and its ubiquitous nature poses new research challenges and provides new opportunities for novel and interesting applications.

Geographical Information Systems and its related technology helps analyze large datasets, allowing a better understanding of terrestrial processes and human activities to improve economic viability and enhanced environmental quality.

The M.Sc (MSc) in Geoinformatics aims to provide conceptual knowledge on GIS, remote sensing and related fields, Information Technology, and hands-on training in GIS, remote sensing, data interpretation, digital image processing, digital photogrammetry, digital cartography and GPS. The Master's Program in Geoinformatics content has been designed keeping in view the emerging trends in the field of Geoinformatics and the increasing needs of skilled manpower and demand for PG in GIS and Remote Sensing fields. BVIEER also offers Certificate Course in Geoinformatics.

Career opportunities lie in the field of land resource management, integrated emergency management, water and waste water management, disaster management, risk assessment and management, transportation, urban planning, environment, hydrology, forestry, agriculture, military, mining, business, health, defence, space research, geology and several related fields. Candidates could find placements as GIS specialist, analyst, developers and instructors among many others. Geoinformatics has a burgeoning market through wide ranging applications in diverse fields and highly paid job opportunities in practically every sector.

Eligibility

The candidate should have passed M.Sc. / B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Applied) in Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Geography, Forestry, Wildlife Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Agriculture, Oceanography, Marine Sciences, Bioinformatics, B.F.Sc. (Fisheries Science), B.Arch., B.A. Geography, B.E. in Mechanical, Civil, IT, Computer, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunications, Environment with at least 50% (45% in case of SC / ST candidates) in the aggregate undergraduate/ postgraduate marks.
